It was mostly due to my age and the fact that I didn't understand it. But recently, I read it for a school assignment and I actually really liked it from beginning to end. Even though it was dark and gloomy, and some parts were confusing, it was overall really good. I found myself unable to stop thinking about it, unable to stop trying to figure it all out. I think if you really sat down to figure out not what happened but what Kathy is actually saying, and put yourself in her shoes during the very last scene, it changes the way you see the rest of the book.Teehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07619417906388493269noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1433153409320048017.post-21275851833048673062010-10-19T22:50:31.609-07:002010-10-19T22:50:31.609-07:00I read the book first, thought it was ok. I think the movie helps me visualize the poignancy of the story. I've written a review on the book and the movie. Carey Mulligan has done it again. Just like An Education, her performance is impressive.Artihttp://rippleeffects.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1433153409320048017.post-19059655915057176072010-10-19T22:12:19.208-07:002010-10-19T22:12:19.208-07:00Hi Mrs W - Glad to hear that you enjoyed it at the...Hi Mrs W - Glad to hear that you enjoyed it at the end!

Hi Jane - I think it is definitely one you should give a go and see what you think.

Hi ds - I absolutely agree! She was so flat and monotone that I couldn't care about her, especially because she didn't seem all that invested in her future either.

However, I did love The Remains of the Day! That book certainly made me want to read more Ishiguro.Stephhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11477615688291798393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1433153409320048017.post-21016321141429765442010-10-12T07:19:32.258-07:002010-10-12T07:19:32.258-07:00I read this book when it first came out and just d...I read this book when it first came out and just did not like it. I just found it to be too detached in tone and I did not like any of the characters. I know you mentioned it was a thinker, but truthfully, I didn't see it that way. I just found it to be lacking and that was that. I never could understand what all the fuss was about. It is strange because I normally hate books that are distant like this one, but for some reason I loved it. I thought the way we were told things was very clever and I liked the clinical coldness of the writing. I just hope you enjoy the film a bit more :-)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07698068501004755678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1433153409320048017.post-82670753242124425432010-10-11T23:53:40.706-07:002010-10-11T23:53:40.706-07:00From looking at the title I was sure I'd read ...From looking at the title I was sure I'd read this book but now reading your review I realsie I haven't.
