Paris Memories

Paris in July has given me the opportunity to reflect on my one and only trip (so far!) to Paris in 2009. To say I fell in love with the city at first sight is an over used cliche I know - but it is oh so true! I was completely blown away by the architecture, the style, the food, the art - even the light seemed amazing in Paris. I actually cried when we had to leave after four days (even though we were going to London - another one of my favourite places in the world). My trip to Paris helped to open up a whole new world of literature for me as well - I had never really been interested in French literature before my trip but I find myself drawn to it now - and even though my knowledge of the language is virtually non existent I feel that my knowledge of the history and culture is growing all the time with my reading.

So, I will be using this time during Paris in July to remember my first time in Paris but also to discover new ways of experiencing the French capital from my eastern Australian home.

My first (and only) trip to Paris is a similar story. L'amour at first sight, crying embarrassingly on the way to Charles de Gaulle... Yikes.

I'm also using this month to reminisce, since my trip was actually in July 2008 - I'm looking forward to hearing about yours!

Beautiful. I'm jealous. I'll have to make do with reading about it! Spending time with Arsene Lupin, gentleman-thief...

Beautiful pictures! I think Paris is a love or hate at first sight type of city. I'm pretty sure I will *love* it!

My first trip to France (and Paris too for a weekend!) was also in 2009 :) I was happy to get home after 4 month abroad but it was SO hard to leave such a beautiful country behind.

Absolutely adore your photos <3

Everyone's personal memories really add to the experience of Paris in July. A celebration of beauty in a way.

I was blown away by the light in Paris too. I thought the buildings glowed with a warm soft golden aura. Enjoy your sojourn in France!

I too have cried in Paris, but it was when I got there the first time. I had wanted to go for 20 years, but it is such a very long and expensive way from Australia.... I finally made it in 1998. Maybe it was the jet lag, maybe the start of my love affair with Paris, but I burst into tears on the very first afternoon as I walked through Tuileries. Tears of joy.

I have a similar love affair with London and New York - though you are well and truly turning my head at Paris now....

I think I wasn't aware that you live in Australia. Too far away from Paris. I don't live there anymore but at least it is only a 3hrs train ride.
There is this belief that there are so-called ley or energy lines crossing Europe. There are places like Stonehenge and Glastonbury on it (not London) and Paris and Chartres ... all through Europe to Spain.
I always thought that was what made Paris special, a special energy that you do not have in many cities.
If it isn't true, at least it's a nice tale.

Paris in July does bring back wonderful memories: I was last there in 2006, a trip that I'll be posting about.
I'm glad you were able to visit that marvelous city, and hope that someday you will have a second shot. Your photos are beautiful.
