Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice was my sixth, and final, item for The Everything Austen Challenge. I was not planning to re-read this book during the challenge but on a recent trip to a favourite Sydney bookshop I came across the Penguin Classics Deluxe edition of the book with these stunning cover drawings by Ruben Toledo - it just had to come home with me and then it just had to be read.

Pride and Prejudice has never been my favourite Austen novel - don't get me wrong, I still love it, I have just never connected with Lizzy Bennet and Mr Darcy the way so many other readers have. Having said that though, I really enjoyed reading the book this time around (not sure if it had anything to do with the gorgeous cover attached to it!). I think it is the case that whenever we re-read our favourite authors work we gain something different from the reading depending upon the time in our life when we are reading it and what is happening in our own world at that particular time - what do others think about this?
I have really enjoyed this challenge - it has given me a chance to re-connect with some Austen favourites as well as discovering some of the new and ever growing Austen spin-offs - thank you so much to Stephanie for organising such a fun challenge.

P&P is actually my favourite Austen, so I'm glad to hear that this reread was rewarding for you! I love the Penguin Classics Deluxe edition - so pretty!

Isn't it lovely? I recently got the Wuthering Heights one, also illustrated by Ruben Toledo. He's so talented.

Like Steph, P&P is also my fave Austen (also S&S, both).

Hi Steph - it is very pretty - the others in the series are gorgeous too.

Hi Claire - I remember seeing your copy of Wuthering Heights and thinking it looked gorgeous - I'm more of a Jane Eyre girl though!

Hi savidgereads - Have you see the BBC series or a moive version of the P&P?? Sometimes I find watching those first helps me get into a book.

Hi Dot - I think a lot of people have P&P as their fave Austen - it is ranking a little higher for me now!

Hi Jane - thank you!!

P&P is my favorite Austen book, but I have not read Persuasion -- that's my goal for my few days off before Christmas.

I really love that Classic Deluxe edition, but having 5 copies of that book in various forms, I've tried to prevent myself from buying it. Though if someone got it for me for the holidays, I certainly wouldn't complain! LOL

Hi Serena - I hope someone sees your comment or reads your mind and gets you that particular edition for the holidays! I hope you enjoy Persuasion when you get to it too - looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
