Gorgeous Books

I found these beautiful books from Penguin at Borders today (apparently they are exclusive to Borders in Australia).

Each book has a different hard cover fabric design and the titles are:

Madame Bovary – Gustave Flaubert

Great Expectations – Charles Dickens

Wuthering Heights – Emily Brontë

Sense and Sensibility – Jane Austen

Cranford – Elizabeth Gaskell

Tess of the d'Urbervilles – Thomas Hardy

Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen

Crime and Punishment – Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Jane Eyre – Charlotte Brontë

I know I am on a reduced book shopping diet but I am very tempted...

I think I did see some of these covers on these classics here in Canada too. I'll have to check again. I had noticed them because they seemed so different.

Yes, definitely saw these in Canada too! At my Indigo shop in Montreal, they have a beautiful display for those and they are so tempting! And not to pricey, but so far I have been surprisingly reasonable.

I would also be very tempted!! :) These beautiful books are worth having on our shelves. I haven't seen them in Quebec, Canada...

For collection purpose at least I have to secure a copy of Crime and Punishment. Now the question is how to purchase this from Australia! :)

I have been a bit absent from our Borders stores since they were taken over by Angus and Robertson. I noticed that since then they have increased their prices (over the normal rrp and higher than other books stores) and stopped handing out (so often) their discount vouchers. However, I still like to browse there and they do generally have good stock.

I might just have to take a closer look if they are stocking these books - they are really beautiful. Though I do find it hard to buy second copies of books I already have so that would leave me with Crime and Punishment or The Picture of Dorian Gray! But on further reflection I think I could probably do with a nicer and better translation of Madame Bovary - see I can justify anything when I want to ;-)

Hi Dar - yes, I think they have been around for a while in other countries - they are gorgoues!

Hi infiniteshelf - I thought the price was quite reasonable for such beautifully presented books too - $20AU.

Hi Jules - keep looking! Sounds like they are around in your country.

Hi Matt - the joys of trying to find books from other countries! Maybe the Penguin website might be the way to go?

Hi Samantha - I am the queen of justification when it comes to books! (and shoes!). I agree with you about Borders - great for browsing but not always so great for buying. I find such differences between the stores too.

Truly gorgeous.. I would be tempted too! Am particularly attracted to the Jane Eyre cover. I wish my copy was that pretty. Also the Great Expectations would be a great addition as mine has a not-so-lovely cover. Lol.

You walked out without buying one? I'm impressed with your restraint! ;-)

Hi Claire - I'm having a hard time deciding on my favourite cover but I agree with you that the Jane Eyre copy is particularly gorgeous!

Hi Tamara - thanks!!!

Hi Paperback Reader - yes, I think they are going to be very hard to resist!

Hi JoAnn - I walked out on that particular day - that's not saying I won't be tempted again!!

Oh those are pretty. I've seen some lovely classics editions at Borders but they look a bit different than these. Very tempting indeed! Are these illustrated by any chance?

wow those classics are gorgeous!

Hi Iliana - I'm not sure about all of the books but the one I bought on the weekend (Crime and Punishment) does not have illustrations.

Hi Serena - they are very sweet!
