Atonement - Movie

I have finally watched Atonement. After reading, and absolutely loving, the book last year for lots of reasons I have been putting off and putting off watching the movie version. My best friend saw it as soon as it came out in Australia and she has been pestering me ever since to watch it myself - I even bought the DVD as soon as it was released and have had it sitting on my shelves since then, waiting and waiting...

I'm not really sure what was stopping me from watching it except for the fact that I loved the book so much I didn't want anything to spoil it. I'm glad to report that I loved the movie. I'm still glad that I left so much time between the reading and the watching but I am ultimately glad that I finally gave in. The movie is gorgeous in so many ways - not least of all the magnificent English country home and estate that plays the part of the Tallis home so well. And that green dress worn by Cecilia - if only I had one myself! I thought the roles were cast beautifully - who could go wrong with James McAvoy really??!

I often find I am so disappointed by movie productions of my favourite books but this one really hit the mark for me.

I read Atonement a number of years ago, and watched the film sometime last year. I'd heard mixed reviews, and while I found it quite slow to start, I loved it. Definitely a great adaptation.

Hi Megan - I think it would have been incredibly hard to work out how exactly to film this book. Given that I think they did a great job but I can see how some people (maybe those who have not read the book??) might not enjoy it.

I *really* thought this film was well done. I did, however, cry the entire second half since I KNEW, you know?

I enjoyed the movie just as much as the book. Beautiful cinematography as well.

Even though I am a bit "over" Kiera Knightley I have to say I thought she was a good choice for this movie. I too loved the book and was surprised by how much I liked the movie version. I couldn't help but think when I was watching the movie how, if you had not read the book prior it seeing it, how the movie would even more shocking/inolving!

Hi Tara - I definitely know!!!

Hi Mari - it was completely gorgeous wasn't it?

Hi Samantha - I agree with you about the Keira Knightley thing - but she did do a great job and I thought suited this role so well.

Isn't that dress stunning? I really enjoyed the movie as well, but it was a bad choice taking my husband with me. I fidgeted the whole time because I knew he was hating it. LOVED the book, though.

I didn't care for the book but I liked the film. I'm not a huge Keira Knightley fan, though. I really loved her in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but not so much after that.
